Tamales Recipe Cheese Jalapeno

Everyone looks forward to Taco Tuesday, but have you tried tamales? Yes, it’s not the most traditional day for tamales, but trust me, these jalapeño cheese tamales will make every day feel like a celebration!

Jalapeño Cheese Tamales Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 pound dried corn husks
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup masa harina (corn flour)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 3-4 jalapeño peppers, seeded and finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro

Instructions

1. Soak the corn husks in hot water for at least 45 minutes until soft and pliable. Drain and pat dry.

2. In a large bowl, combine the cornmeal, masa harina, butter, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the chicken broth and sour cream until a soft dough is formed.

3. Stir in the chopped jalapeño peppers, shredded Cheddar cheese, and chopped cilantro.

4. To assemble the tamales, spread a spoonful of the dough on a corn husk, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges. Add a spoonful of the filling in the center of the dough. Roll the corn husk tightly around the filling, tucking in the ends.

5. Place the tamales in a steamer basket and steam for 45-60 minutes until the dough is firm and separates easily from the husk. Serve hot and enjoy!

These jalapeño cheese tamales are perfect for a cozy dinner at home or for a fiesta with friends. They’re easy to make and the combination of cheesy, savory goodness with a little hint of spice is sure to delight your taste buds. Serve them with some salsa and guacamole for an extra kick. Don’t forget to save room for some dessert tamales, too!
