Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tbsp. smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. onion powder
  • 4 tbsp. unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup milk

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, salt, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Add the cold butter to the bowl and use a pastry blender or two knives to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

3. Add the shredded cheese to the bowl and mix until evenly distributed.

4. Gradually add the milk to the bowl, mixing until the dough comes together and forms a ball.

5. On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out into a long rectangle that is approximately 1/4 inch thick.

6. Cut the dough into thin strips using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter. Twist each strip and place it onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch between each twist.

7. Bake for approximately 18-20 minutes, or until the cheese straws are golden brown and crispy. Let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
