Hometown Buffet Macaroni And Cheese Recipe

Ingredients

For the Macaroni:

  • 16 oz elbow macaroni
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1\/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1\/4 cup butter
  • 1\/4 cup flour
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 4 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 3 tbsp butter, melted

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

2. Cook the macaroni according to package instructions. Drain well and set aside.

3. In a saucepan, heat the milk, salt, and black pepper over medium-low heat. In another saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the flour to the melted butter and whisk to form a roux. Cook for a minute, stirring continuously.

4. Add the heated milk to the roux, whisking continuously. Add the cream and continue whisking. Cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture is thick and bubbling, around 10 minutes.

5. Add the shredded cheddar cheese to the mixture and stir until melted and smooth.

6. Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese mixture and stir to combine well.

7. Pour the macaroni and cheese mixture into a 9×13 inch baking dish.

8. In a mixing bowl, combine the bread crumbs and melted butter and mix well. Sprinkle over the top of the macaroni and cheese mixture in the baking dish.

9. Bake in the preheated oven for around 25 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the macaroni and cheese is heated through.

10. Once done, remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.
